When we started Leiffa back in 2018, solventless was still finding its footing in a market that was chasing the next big thing. We saw things differently. We were incredibly fortunate in those early days to work alongside extractors trained by Nikka T., one of the original pioneers of the solventless movement. His influence helped us build a foundation of craft and integrity from day one, a commitment to doing things the right way, even when it wasn’t the easiest way.
Overcoming Challenges: Innovating Solventless Rosin Extraction
In those humble beginnings, our crew set out to redefine what was possible in solventless extraction. We didn’t have big investors or shiny equipment. Just a small, passionate team willing to get our hands (and sometimes feet) cold and wet. That meant hauling endless bags of ice into the washroom by hand, paddling thousands of grams of fresh frozen with the same care and attention every single time. Every challenge was an opportunity to find creative, resourceful solutions.
When we were just starting out, the pre-made equipment available at the time was either lackluster or not built for true commercial scale. Back then, Harvest Right freeze dryers were mostly in kitchens, not washrooms, we doubt they were getting many calls from hash makers.
More often than not, when a tool didn’t exist, we retrofitted something else to get the job done. And when a process could be improved, we improved it. We spent countless hours refining our craft through trial and error. But we didn’t do it alone. We leaned on feedback from other hash makers, listened closely to what our community wanted, and stayed connected with the people actually consuming our hash.
Collaborations That Elevated Our Craft
As we grew, we maintained our hands-on, scrappy approach but recognized the need for partners who shared our values. We were among the first to collaborate with LowTemp Industries, a team as committed to clean, precise hash as we are. Our partnership went beyond using their equipment — we worked closely with them on R&D, helping to test and refine new tools and processes.
When it was time to scale our washes, we brought in an Osprey to handle the heavy lifting. It made the process cleaner and more consistent than the early DIY setups could ever achieve. By combining smart technology with our old-school dedication, we stayed true to the craft to deliver more hash with less hassle.
